by Ruling of Receiving Scholarship from Bank
Dr. Kholid al Musyaiqih once was asked about the ruling of one receiving scholarship given by bank in order to continue his study to a higher level of education. It has no requirement, and he doesn’t work at the bank.
He answered:
All praises be to Allah, peace and prayer of Allah be upon His messenger.
فالتقدم للحصول على مثل هذه المنحة محرم ولا يجوز؛ لعدة أمور:
It is unlawful to apply for this kind of scholarship thus it is not permitted, due to some reasons:,
أولاً: أن في ذلك تقوية لهذه المؤسسة الربوية وتشجيعاً لها، وهذا من التعاون على الإثم والعدوان الذي نهانا الله _تعالى_ عنه بقوله _سبحانه_:” وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَلا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ
Firstly, receiving scholarship from bank will support this usurious institution and motivate it to expand its usurious activities. And this act is regarded as helping one another in committing sin and transgression, which Allah prohibits through His decree, which can be translated as, “rather, help one another in acts of righteousness and piety, and do not help one another in sin and transgression. Fear Allah: Surely Allah is severe in retribution.” (ChapterAl Ma’ida/ the Table Spread:2)
ثالثاً: أن هذا من الكسب الخبيث، ويجب على المسلم ألا يأكل إلا حلالاً طيباً.
والله _تعالى_ أعلم
Secondly, This scholarship originates from an unclean source, and it is compulsory for all muslims to consume only the lawful and good food.
