From Qois, from Jarir, he said, “I pledged to the Prophet to establish the prayers, pay the zakat, and wish the goodness for all muslims.” (Narrated by Muslim no. 208).
There was an extraordinary example given by the companion of the Prophet, Jarir, to realize the saying of the Prophet above.
It was narrated by Al Hafizh Abu Al Qasim ath Thabrani, (and) the summary is: Jarir ordered his slave to buy him a horse. Finally, his slave bought a horse for him with the price of 300 dirhams. The slave brought it together with the owner to receive the payment from Jarir. After seeing that horse, Jarir told the owner, “300 dirhams is too cheap for your horse, May I buy it for 400 dirhams?”. “It is up to you, O Abu Abdillah, ” answered the horse owner.
After he thought again for a while, Jarir changed his mind and said to the owner, “400 is indeed too cheap. May I buy it for 500 dirhams?.” The horse owner still agreed with him.
Every time he thought further about the price, Jarir kept adding 100 dirhams and 100 more dirhams to the original price. The horse owner, of course, was delighted. Jarir kept on saying that the previously agreed price was too cheap. Until finally, Jarir bought the horse with the price of 800 dirhams.
Seeing that unique transaction, someone asked him, why did he do so. He replied, “I ever promised the Prophet to wish for goodness for all muslims.” (Explanation of Nawawi for the Sahih Muslim, 1/145]
