Limiting Provision in Prayer

At times, triggered by hatred and dislike, we prayed to Allah so that He wont provide His blessing and provision for the object of our hatred. Moreover, not only a mere human being that fell victim to it, but a prophet as well.

When Ibrahim (Abraham) prayed to Allah to bestow His blessing upon the city of Mecca, he begged that the city residents were given fruits, only that it is exclusive for the faithful among them. But instead of immediately granted it, Allah straightened out that prayer, declaring that He will give His blessing even to the infidels, but only in this world.

And when Abraham prayed: “O my Lord! Make this a place of security and provide those of its people that believe in Allah and the Last Day with fruits for sustenance,” Allah answered, “And I shall still provide him who disbelieves with the wherewithal for this short life, and then I shall drive him to the chastisement of the Fire; that is an evil end.” (chapter Al Baqara/The Cow:126)

The part “And I shall still provide him who disbelieves with the wherewithal for this short life, and then I shall drive him to the chastisement of the Fire; that is an evil end.” Shows how Allah corrected Ibrahim’s prayer who asked for His blessing to be given only to the faithful men.

You could see that Ibrahim’s prayer was just restricting the infidels from getting Allah’s blessing and provision; now imagine, what about people who prays so that his muslim friend is prevented from receiving Allah’s provision? Isn’t it worse?

But that is the nature of human. Sometimes his emotional side drags him to limit something that is vast; Allah’s blessing and provision that is unlimited.

Maybe we need to start realizing that Allah is The Richest, thus no matter how much He gives to His slave, His riches will not decrease even for a penny.

We also need to realize that Allah is The Most Gracious, and that He is able to give His grace to anyone He wishes.

And Allah knows best.
