Is it permissible for the seller to give incentives such as gifts of other form of bonuses to increase his sales? For example, for every IDR 10 millions of purchasing in a month, the customer will get some products as bonuses, which value equal IDR 100.000, or cellphone, or other items?
Abdul Aziz Audah
All praises be to Allah, peace and prayer of Allah be upon Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his devoted companions.
Our scholars today have explained that incentives, in the form of products directly being given to those who already met the criteria, without any lot or the like, is permitted in sharia, insha Allah. Since such incentive equals to discount or prize which are allowed in sharia. And there are no reason to forbid it.
As for incentives in the form of lottery coupon, or such, are forbidden since it will lead to gambling as I’ve explained earlier in the question regarding ruling for zakat in lottery. And Allah knows best.
