Admonition to Muslim Entrepreneurs

Brothers, let us muse about decrees of Allah The Exalted below, to understand and to apply it, and to make it as provisions in business, to seize the happiness and real success in our life, insha Allah.

“Know ye (all), that the life of this world is but play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting and multiplying (in rivalry) among yourselves, riches and children: Here is a similitude: how rain and the growth which it brings forth, delight (the hearts) of the tillers; soon it withers; thou wilt see it grow yellow; then it becomes dry and crumbles away. But in the Hereafter is a Penalty severe (for the devotees of wrong) And Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the devotees of Allah). And what is the life of this world, but goods and chattels of deception?” (Al Hadid: 20)

“Fair in the eyes of men is the love of things they covet: women and sons; heaped-up hoards of gold and silver; horses branded (for blood and excellence); and (wealth of) cattle and well-tilled land. Such are the possessions of this world’s life; but in nearness to Allah is the best of the goals (to return to)” (Ali Imran: 14)

“To any that desires the tilth of the Hereafter, We give increase in his tilth; and to any that desires the tilth of this world, We grant somewhat thereof, but he has no share or lot in the Hereafter.” (Ash-Shura:20)

“Say: ‘Short is the enjoyment of this world: the Hereafter is the best for those who do right: never will ye be dealt with unjustly in the very least!'” (An-Nisa: 77)

“Nay (behold), ye prefer the life of this world; But the Hereafter is better and more enduring.” (Al-Ala: 16-17)

“Those who desire the life of the Present and its glitter to them We shall pay (the price of) their deeds therein- without diminution. They are those for whom there is nothing in the Hereafter but the Fire: vain are the designs they frame therein, and of no effect are the deeds that they do!” (Hud: 15-16)

By prioritizing the Hereafter than worldly benefits, does not mean that you are prevented from being wealthy, and from success in business, no! Plenty of the companions of The Apostle Shallallaahu ‘alayh wa Sallam who were tremendously rich, they got married, they possess riches, they were successful entrepreneurs, and so on… but never did they put The World inside their hearts, never did they sacrifice the affairs of The Hereafter to achieve worldly riches, and they used the world and its’s virtues as a mean to reach for the enjoyment of the eternal land of The Hereafter.

In essence, all of us must realize deeply that our present life is a short-timed one, and should not be tricked to chase it by transgressing the Law of Allah. We should not sacrificing the enduring happiness of the Hereafter to gain the temporary and deceitful joys of the world.

We must be honest in business, and we shall never lessen the weights, never be greedy and voracious by consuming other’s wealth, never sell a bad property of which ourselves unwilling to wear or to use it, we shall fulfill our promise, leave usury, and never sell our pride cheaply by speaking the words of lie, committing fraud, and transgressing the prohibitions of Allah, forgetting and underestimating the prayers and other religious services just to run for worldly affairs. Never! We must be sure, every one of us, to avoid being fooled by this perishable world!

And Allah knows best.
