Question:

Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Shalih al Uthaymeen was asked:

Is the torment in grave afflicted on body or on spirit?

Answer:

Basically, the torment in grave will be afflicted on spirits, because punishment after death is for the spirits. Whereas bodies are just empty carcasses. Thus, bodies of the death are no longer in need of foods to sustain its living; no longer in need of foods and drinks, rather, it decomposed in no time inside the earth.

Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Shalih al Uthaymeen once was asked,

“Is the torment of the grave for believers who did evil doings could be lightened?”

Answer:

Yes, sometimes it could be lightened / lessened, because the Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- ever passed by two graves, and said,

“Truly, both of the dwellers of these grave are being tormented, due to major reasons, indeed, major reasons, one of them is being tormented because he didn’t clean himself when urinated, or he said, ‘he didn’t shun himself from others when urinated’, and the other is being tormented because he was fond of pitting/causing slander.’. Then he took a wet frond and divided it into two, and sticked onto each grave one part, and said, “May their torments been lightened as long as the frond hasn’t dried yet.” [1]

Islam is a perfect religion. However, it is a pity that many of the muslim themselves do not understand their own religion well. They are too busy pursuing the world, thus they are unwilling to learn it. As a result, there are a lot of religious matters that they are lacking of.

Islam is a religion from Allah, which authenticity will be preserved until the end of time. Allah had sent down the Qur’an and revealed to the Prophet – peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- to explain the Qur’an and Islam thoroughly. Islam teaches its followers to always keep themselves from any kind of astray and deviation. However, the other religion’s teaching, deviations, and innovations made by some muslims could influence them as a whole to the extent that they want to follow it. Eventually, the astray and deviation becomes heritable thus it transforms into a habit that is very hard to separate from our society.

20. Train him to use his wealth properly according to his needs, and get him used to save it and avoid extravagant lifestyle

Parent should pay a close attention to this point, because wealth is something that Allah entrusted and therefore should be kept and use wisely. This training is not exclusive for the rich, even the poor should train their child to do it. How many child who was poor, and when they grow older and become rich, spend their money carelessly? Whereas we all know that spending money carelessly is not allowed in Islam.

The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said,

( إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَرِهَ لَكُمْ ثَلاَثًا قِيلَ وَقَالَ وَإِضَاعَةَ الْمَالِ وَكَثْرَةَ السُّؤَالِ (

“Indeed, Allah loathes for you to do three things: saying, “Some said…some said..”(gossiping), wasting (your) wealth, and too much questioning.” [1]
