How to Treat the Ailments of the Heart

1. Allah the Glorified and Exalted decreed,

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءَتْكُم مَّوْعِظَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَشِفَاءٌ لِّمَا فِي الصُّدُورِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

“Mankind! Now there has come to you an exhortation from your Lord, a healing for the ailments of the hearts, and a guidance and mercy for those who believe.” (Chapter Yunus:57)

2. The Messenger of Allah –peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- always recited the following du’a:

((يَا مُقَلِّبَ اْلقُـلُوْبِ، ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِيْ عَلَى دِيْنِكَ))

“O Allah Who turns the heart, please strengthen my heart upon Your religion.” (Narrated by At-Tirmidzi: 2/20, Sheikh Al Albani said: ‘It is a sound hadith’)

He recited the du’a plenty of times, particularly during prostration. He knew that if the heart is good, then the whole body will be good top. But if it is rotten, then the other body parts will be rotten beyond repair.

Question:

Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Shalih al Uthaymeen was asked:

Is the torment in grave afflicted on body or on spirit?

Answer:

Basically, the torment in grave will be afflicted on spirits, because punishment after death is for the spirits. Whereas bodies are just empty carcasses. Thus, bodies of the death are no longer in need of foods to sustain its living; no longer in need of foods and drinks, rather, it decomposed in no time inside the earth.

Torments of the Grave for the believers

Question:

Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Shalih al Uthaymeen once was asked,

“Is the torment of the grave for believers who did evil doings could be lightened?”

Answer:

Yes, sometimes it could be lightened / lessened, because the Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- ever passed by two graves, and said,

“Truly, both of the dwellers of these grave are being tormented, due to major reasons, indeed, major reasons, one of them is being tormented because he didn’t clean himself when urinated, or he said, ‘he didn’t shun himself from others when urinated’, and the other is being tormented because he was fond of pitting/causing slander.’. Then he took a wet frond and divided it into two, and sticked onto each grave one part, and said, “May their torments been lightened as long as the frond hasn’t dried yet.” [1]
